Mac's Nuffield St Brewbar - The New Breed of Mac's Brewbars
August 18th 2006
The waiting is finally over. The Mac's Nuffield Street Brewbar opened it's brand new shiny glass doors to the public last night. Hallelujah!
This isn't like any other Mac's Brewbar you will have seen before. This is the new breed of Brewbar. And as you can probably tell we're very excited.
"The Mac's Nuffield St Brewbar will blow you away," says Mac's Marketing Maverick, Stephen Smith. "It's definitely not what you'd typically expect out of a bar and pushes the boundaries of what bars are about. There are so many unique items to discover - it will keep people looking every time they visit. It's a cliché but you really do have to see it to believe it. It is a very unique experience. A Mac's experience."
The new look Mac's Brew Bar is the result of a collaboration between Shine, Mac's creative agency, and a great team of designers including Nick and Kirsty at JAZMAX and Steve at Element 17.
"Our design challenge was how to architecturally tell Mac's 'naturally brewed' beer story in a creative and engaging way. We were given permission to create a venue that includes an irreverent and elective attitude, described in a contemporary and fun way," says Shine's Creative Director Lucien Law.
Each and every Mac's beer will be served on tap, perfect temperature, perfect pour, perfect taste, every time. As you stand leaning on the concrete bar top which rests on a natural split timber panel frontbar, and ponder which of these fantastic and flavoursome Mac's beers to choose next, you'll notice one of the bars many focal pieces - a backbar created from a jigsaw of fifties cabinetry, providing an inviting canvas for Mac's artwork.
In fact Mac's Nuffield Street Brewbar is full of artwork, stories and anecdotes about the brand, scattered throughout the venue. From toilet walls, to the backs of the staff t-shirts, there is something new and interesting at every turn.
The recycled wooden floors, concrete walls, log chairs and tables reaffirm the Mac's "All Natural, Nothing Artificial" philosophy. Low lounge seating combined with natural wood coffee tables and log chairs will add to the relaxed drinking experience. You'll be so comfy you might not be able to get up.
At Mac's Nuffield St Brewbar, it's all about the beer. But we've got some bloody good food on the menu too.
"We were very keen to create a signature dish for new look Mac's Brewbars, something for which the venues will hopefully become as famous for, as the beers they pour. This became another creative collaboration, working with Louis Shindler of Hertzog and Timara Lodge fame, to create Mac's Tapa Cones**" says Law.
The entire Mac's menu has been carefully designed to gratify your taste buds. In our Well-being section however, you'll find that several other parts of the mind and body are catered to as well. Think NZ market fish dusted in Japanese seven spice on soba noodles, in a jasmine tea miso broth with exotic vegetables. Or beetroot carpaccio with rocket salad, lemon zest and shaved parmesan.
And another interesting feature, the Mac's Power Lunch. Nothing less than the fastest slow food you'll find. You may have completely over scheduled yourself but we'll do our best to get first rate food into you anyway. We'll have that staples soup, pasta and risottos of the day, as well as Mac's beer battered fish and chips and Sweet Mac's Sassy Red roasted pork loin - to name but a few options.
Although beer is something of a food in its own right, at Mac's we're so obsessed by taste that we've matched each of our dishes with an appropriate beer from the Mac's range. Hopefully this will enhance your enjoyment of both.
"We can't wait for people to discover us," says Mac's Nuffield Street Brewbar owner Sam Ansley. "We love the way the bar has turned out, the design, the menu and most of all the beer. We think that everyone who visits will love it too!"
