Ocean Beach Road damage resolved
A way forward for the damaged section of Ocean Beach Road was decided yesterday at a site-meeting between Hastings District Council, MWH and Higgins Contractors Ltd.
To provide a necessary and immediate solution, it was resolved that two collapsed culverts through the existing road will be replaced, and the cracked, subsided section of road (approximately 250metres) will be reconstructed and left unsealed.
Hastings District Council’s Infrastructure Manager, Murray Foreman, said the Council is aiming to have a minimum of single-lane public access available by the weekend. “That will be the minimum. We are working hard to enable two-lane access. Our real priority is making sure the community there have reliable access in and out of the area,” he said.
The road will be inspected daily for the rest of the winter period after which a permanent sealed surface will be constructed.
