Submissions are now open for the 2006 Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism
The 2006 Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism is an annual competition for tourism businesses, suppliers to
the industry and outstanding individuals.
The 2006 Hunter Region Tourism Awards recognise and encourage tourism businesses that aspire for excellence in all areas
of their work. Winning an award is the industry’s highest accolade and the recipients represent the best in the region.
In previous years, the diversity and calibre of entrants has matched the vitality and growing professionalism of the
Hunter Region’s industry. This year there are 31 categories available for entry, reflecting the broad range of
businesses within the industry and the outstanding contribution made by many individuals. The awards are held under
strict guidelines set by Tourism New South Wales enabling the Hunter’s tourism operators to compete against each other
at regional level and then re-submit their entries in the state awards.
In 2005, twenty-two Hunter tourism operators were finalists in the NSW Tourism Awards for Excellence, nine of whom won
their category. With such a high calibre of participants involved in the event, the 2006 Hunter Region Awards for
Excellence in Tourism promise to be a competitive and challenging process for the entrants.
The Awards focus on the performance of local tourism operators over the previous year and acknowledge excellence in the
defined categories. It involves two distinct sections: the submission process, where operators submit their entry for
judging followed by the gala evening, where industry representatives attend an awards ceremony hosted by HRTO.
Submissions for the 2006 Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism will close 5pm Wednesday 9 August.
The Awards Gala Dinner will be held on Thursday 7th September at 6.30pm at Western Suburbs Leagues Club and will be a
luminous celebration of the many and varied tourism talents from throughout the Hunter Region.
