MEDIA STATEMENT
Regional Civil defence
Weather forecasts for the weekend are a big concern for Civil defence authorities in the South Island. With many
Canterbury communities still reeling from Monday’s snow storm, concerns are that more communities will be caught
unawares. Canterbury’s Civil Defence Emergency Planner, Jon Mitchell, says people should stock up in time.
They are being advised top make sure they have plenty of the following:
*Fuel for heating and cooking requirements
*Enough food and water for an extended period
*Mobile phones and means to recharge them from a car battery
*Battery operated radio
For further information you should call the appropriate district councils. Ask for the media liaison officer for Civil
Defence at those councils.
