Closer links between ACC and North Shore City Council
The North Shore City Council and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) are committed to working together more
closely.
The council's strategic management committee yesterday approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining how the
relationship will work.
Committee chairman, Gary Holmes, says this agreement will further guide and develop the relationship between ACC and the
council.
"We want to work together on projects that have ensure our city is a safe place to live and work," he says.
The council has a statutory obligation under the Local Government Act 2002 to work together with other government
agencies.
This agreement complements but does not affect the council's statutory responsibilities to ACC as an employer. The
council has reached tertiary level on the ACC Partnership Programme, which has a strong focus on health and safety.
The MoU sets out the core principles of the relationship and identifies some district projects that the two
organisations will work on:
Projects include:
- "Make It A Safe Summer";
- Participation in ShoreSafe;
- Council housing project for older people;
- Speed reduction campaign;
- Kid's Bike Day;
- Pedestrian safety; and
- Cycle Safety.
The MoU will be signed by the North Shore City Council and ACC after ACC approves the final draft document.
