CMJ traffic bulletin: Saturday 25 February until Thursday 2 March
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 26 February until Wednesday 1 March – CLOSED – overnight from 9.30pm until 5am the following morning:
- Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound between Cook St off-ramp and Hobson St on-ramp
Sunday 26 February until Thursday 2 March – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
- Southern Motorway (SH1) northbound between Symonds/Port/Wellesley off-ramp and Wellington St on-ramp
Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 26 February – CLOSED – overnight from 11pm until 5am on Monday:
- Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 26 February – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am on Monday:
- Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Nelson St off-ramp eastbound
Sunday 26 February until Thursday 2 March – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
- Southern Motorway to Northwestern Motorway (SH1 to SH16 westbound) link
Monday 27 February until Thursday 2 March – CLOSED – overnight from 9.30pm until 5am the following morning:
- Northwestern Motorway to Port (SH16) port bound
- Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway (SH16 to SH1link) eastbound
- Newton on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
