Special film to preview at ASB Starry Nights
As part of ASB Starry Nights tomorrow, there will be a preview to an amazing movie that will have its New Zealand
premier in Christchurch next month to celebrate the close of the Antarctic summer season.
The March of the Penguins will screen at the Regent on 12 March as a fundraiser for the Antarctic Heritage Trust, which
is currently down on the ice doing restoration work on the Scott and Shackleton huts.
The movie is a National Geographic documentary about the remarkable migration patterns of Emperor penguins. Voiced by
Morgan Freeman, the movie follows thousands of penguins as they abandon the security of their ocean home and clamber
onto the frozen ice to begin their long journey into a region so bleak, so extreme, it supports no other wildlife at
this time of year. In single file, the penguins march blinded by blizzards, buffeted by gale force winds. Resolute,
indomitable, driven by the overpowering urge to reproduce, to assure the survival of the species.
The movie is being brought to Christchurch by Antarctica Link organisers of the Christchurch Antarctic Festival.
Tickets for the premier will go on sale in the near future.
