Giant Ferris wheel fun on the waterfront
Summer fun continues in Wellington city with a giant Ferris wheel now erected in Franks Kitts Park.
The 28 metre (100 feet) Taylor’s Wheel is the height of a 10-storey building. It is one of the world’s largest portable
Ferris wheel and this is its first trip to New Zealand. It will be ready for business from noon Saturday 11 February
(tomorrow).
Rides on the Taylor’s Wheel are $6 each person. Each ride is around ten minutes long. The Taylor’s Wheel will be
operating each day from noon until around 10pm until 22 February.
Wellington City Council Events Manager John Dawson says he is expecting the Taylor’s Wheel to be very popular.
“We’re expecting it to be a real crowd-pleaser. It’s absolutely enormous and here just in time for this weekend’s
Chinese New Year festivities and Bluebridge Hula Laguna and Late Night Luau. It will be stunning at night lit up with
multi-coloured lights. People will be able to see right across the harbour while riding the Taylor’s Wheel.”
The ride can accommodate six people in each of the 24 gondolas and can carry 600 people an hour.
The Taylor’s Wheel has come to Wellington from the United Kingdom, after a stopover at the Auckland Anniversary
Festival. The Council helped find a Wellington venue for the Taylor’s Wheel.
