Anniversary to celebrate Korean sister city relationship
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Christchurch-Songpa sister city relationship, the Korean Society of Christchurch will be holding a Korean Festival on Saturday, 19 November.
To mark the anniversary, a music and dance performance by the Jeonju Cultural Performance Group, direct from Korea, will be held at the Aurora Centre, Burnside High School where one lucky ticket holder will win a return-trip to Korea.
The show will also feature the Hillmorton High School kapa haka group, which recently returned from a trip to Songpa-Gu and Jeonju, South Korea, where it performed at several Korean celebrations.
The celebrations on 19 November will also include a Korean Market with entertainment and demonstrations in Cathedral Square between 11am-2pm to which all public are invited to attend. The market will feature performances from the Jeonju Cultural Performance Group (12pm), and the Merrin School Korean Cultural Group.
The Christchurch Art Gallery is also getting into the spirit of the anniversary and will showcase New Zealand’s first exhibition of Korean contemporary art which will open to the public on 18 November and run until 26 February, 2006.
