Manukau City Council Recognised Nationally
Manukau City Council dominated the NZ Post Society of Local Government Managers Management Awards announced last night.
As winners of 2 of the 4 categories, and receiving commendations in two others, Manukau confirmed its position in
leadership of management excellence within local government in New Zealand.
“I am extremely proud of the staff’s performance which has been recognised through these awards,” said Colin Dale,
Manukau City Manager.
“Regardless of how wonderful our policies look on paper, it is their effectiveness within the community that is the most
important measure of success.
“For example, the Pacific Connection project which won the Management of People category, focused on improving
understanding amongst our staff of our large Pacific community in Manukau. Why? Because when policies are being
developed they need to be effective, and effectiveness is only possible with a deep understanding of the community you
are trying to reach.
“In the Community Relationship category won by the Council’s City Manager’s Task Force entry, the Council met a
challenge driven by growth and community concern. In addition to being acknowledged by the community as a success it is
pleasing to see the level of interest in the project shown by other territorial local authorities, many of whom are
facing the same issues.”
Manukau City Council also played a role in the Process Management category, won by a multi-Council entry, with a
commendation for another entry in the same category.
“As City Manager it is with pride I can say that Manukau City Council staff strive to and do make a difference,” said Mr
Dale.
