Star students shine at performing arts awards
Stars of the future have been found at the 2005 Manukau Secondary Schools Performing Arts Awards. The 500 people who
watched the finalists compete at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on Thursday, 1 September were delighted with the
exceptional talent on display.
Judges had a difficult task of deciding the winners in five categories. The high standard of competition was
particularly apparent in the classical vocal category, where judges could find nothing to separate performances from
Tamaki College and Kings College, who shared equal first place.
Mangere College also impressed, winning the contemporary group category, plus first and second places in the
contemporary individual category.
Leisa Siteine, Council’s Arts Manager says, “Every year the event gets better and better. The skill and creativity
demonstrated by students from across the region is an inspiration and Manukau City Council is delighted to offer this
opportunity for them to showcase their talents.”
“A big thank you to the students for their hard work and also to all the teachers and schools who support them in their
musical endeavours.”
