Auckland City helps with heritage restoration
Applications for Auckland City’s built heritage fund are now open, with a total of $50,000 available during the 2005 to
2006 year.
The fund provides grants to enable property owners to conserve, restore and protect aspects of Auckland’s built
heritage.
“This fund provides support for owners of buildings of significant heritage value to carry out important restoration
work,” says Councillor Christine Caughey, chairperson of Auckland City’s Environment, Heritage and Urban Form Committee.
“Auckland City places great importance on our city’s heritage and is pleased to be able to contribute to this work.”
The criteria for applications made to the Built Heritage Fund include:
- buildings must be of heritage significance and currently on the schedule of Buildings, Heritage Properties and,
Places, Monuments and Objects of Special Value lists in Auckland City’s District Plan
- proposals must enhance the heritage significance of the item, such as essential repairs and maintenance to buildings,
assistance for conservation plans, assistance for restoration and also enhancement of building facades
- funding is not retrospective and the project must start after the applicant receives notification that the application
has been approved.
The closing date for applications is 1 December 2005.
Auckland City heritage officers are available to discuss application criteria and details of a particular site. It is
envisaged that a range of smaller projects will be funded with the $50,000 available.
