David Benham appointed as CEO of Greater Wellington Regional Council
Ian Buchanan, Chairperson of Greater Wellington Regional Council today announced that David Benham had been appointed as
Greater Wellington’s new Chief Executive.
“I am very pleased to announce David’s appointment. David has been with the Council since 1989, firstly as Chief
Financial Officer and since 1996 as Divisional Manager Utility Services. Prior to working for Greater Wellington David
worked in the private sector.”
Ian Buchanan said that the Council was very impressed by David’s proven track record as a senior council officer.
“David’s strengths include a demonstrated capacity for efficient planning and management, his integrity and appreciation
of the need to provide frank, informed advice, and a determination to provide opportunities for staff and managers to
take an active role in planning and policy implementation.”
“Over the last three months we have undertaken a very thorough recruitment process and been fortunate to consider some
very well qualified applicants for this job,” said Ian Buchanan. “David was clearly the right choice for the job.”
David Benham thanked the Council for appointing him, and said he was absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity.
“The Council’s wide range of responsibilities and contribution to the community make this a challenging and exciting
job. I have enormous respect for the Council’s staff and elected representatives, and know that, together, we will
strive to be an efficient and innovative organisation.”
David Benham will start in the role effective from Monday 5th September.
