Soldiers Take Over The Hills Of Dunedin
Over 100 Territorial Force soldiers from all over New Zealand will take to the hills of Dunedin on Saturday 6 August to
compete in the Twin Peaks Battle Tab.
The event will see soldiers trekking over 26 kilometres of some of Dunedin’s most arduous countryside, including the
imposing features known as “Swampy Summit” and “Flagstaff” that dominate the skyline.
The Dunedin based 4th Otago Southland Battalion Group first ran the competition in August 2002, opening it up to other
Territorial Force Battalions throughout the country the following year. There are three categories, with soldiers
competing as individuals, teams or in a women’s division. For this year’s event the competition has been increased
further with an invitation extended to members of the Naval Reserve.
The Territorial Force has long been an integral part of the New Zealand Army. The skills Territorial Force personnel
bring with them from their civilian careers add depth to the New Zealand Army and increase its versatility.
