Regional and District Councillors to visit Whareroa Farm
The Guardians of Whareroa Farm will host a group of staff, councillors and community board members from Kapiti Coast District Council and the Wellington Regional Council on a trip to Whareroa Farm today (Monday August 1).
The visit will provide an opportunity for members of the group to see the special features of the farm for themselves, says Guardians of Whareroa spokesman Leon Keil.
Mr Keil says a key feature of the visit will be a stop at one of the pre-eminent vantage points of the farm. “From this point the group will be able to see right out over the coastal plains and Queen Elizabeth Park to Kapiti Island,” he says.
“It is absolutely magnificent and a view that ought to be accessible to all Kapiti and Wellington residents in perpetuity. When you look at this view you see how inappropriate a future housing development would be,” he says.
Mr Keil says although the Queen Elizabeth Park Management Plan Review has closed without reference to Whareroa Farm he hopes the visit from influential local and regional politicians will illustrate the farm’s importance as a recreational asset for future generations and encourage them to include it as a part of the forward vision for the park.
The tour begins at 10am at Whareroa Farm gates next to Mackay’s Crossing north of Paekakariki. Morning tea is provided.
