Police arrest man for Plimmerton attack
A man sought by Porirua Police in relation to an attack on a woman in Plimmerton yesterday has tonight given himself up to police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, Porirua CIB, says John Douglas Willis contacted police about 7pm tonight. He was located a short time later in Plimmerton, was arrested without difficulty and is now in police custody.
Willis will be appearing in the Porirua District Court tomorrow morning on charged with: theft of a boat, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon, assault with intent to rape, indecent assault and kidnapping with intent to have sexual intercourse.
Detective Senior Sergeant Oxnam credits extensive media coverage in prompting Willis to give himself up.
"Local residents will also be relieved that Willis is now in custody."
