Residents challenge Barmy Army HQ resource consent
Some viaduct apartment owners are taking legal action against Auckland City Council in an attempt to overturn the
resource consent issued for the Barmy Army Headquarters in Halsey Street.
Yesterday, Lighter Quay Management Services Limited lodged proceedings in the High Court seeking to overturn the
non-notification decision and the consent.
The resource consent granted for the event limits the hours of operation to 3am on four nights and 1am on the other
nights, with all outdoor activity ceasing at 11pm. Other noise/public safety mitigation measures include ‘local traffic
only’ (vehicular and pedestrian) restrictions around the Lighter Quay and Viaduct apartments.
The council was careful to ensure the event had enough flexibility to go ahead while also addressing the concerns of
neighbouring properties.
The applicant, Elite Events Ltd, was granted resource consent to host the event at the Viaduct Harbour Marine Village,
99 – 115 Halsey Street for 20 days, starting from Saturday 25 June.
