Youth invited to get ‘Activ’ at Parklands Reserve
A range of indoor and outdoor sporting activities for young people are on offer at ‘Aktiv’, a free sports event at Parklands Reserve on Sunday 13 March 2005, from 9am to 1pm.
The event, for 10 to 13 year olds, offers the chance to try a range of sports, with community sports clubs promoting games including soccer, cricket, netball, basketball, softball and hockey. Boys and girls will also have the opportunity to have a go at Taiaha with expert tutors from Te Tohu O Tu. The day is designed to encourage youth to increase their physical activity, as well as the opportunity for the community to get together.
During Activ’s four hours, participants will have the chance to play a competitive game or take part in a coaching clinic. Different sports will run simultaneously in different parts of the park between 9am and 1pm. Aktiv is also privileged to have the support of local sporting heros, the Canterbury Rams, who will be hosting the basketball clinic. As well as the games and coaching clinics, there’ll be a free sausage sizzle from midday to 1pm. The event will also have information stalls, music and heaps of prizes up for grabs.
Participants can register through their school, or by email to aktivsportsday@yahoo.co.nz. Get more information by calling Christchurch City Council on 941 6840.
All registered Activ participants are to be at Parklands Reserve at 9am on the day. However, in wet weather, the event will be cancelled. Listen to Newstalk ZB and 91ZM for cancellation details.
Aktiv is proudly supported by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board, Parklands/Queenspark Youth Committee, Parklands United Sports Club, Parklands Christchurch United Softball Club, Canterbury Hockey Association and the Canterbury Rams.
