Final Two Concerts Of The ‘Summer On The Lawn’ Series
The response to the first two ‘Summer on the Lawn’ series of concerts has been extremely positive. Large crowds have
turned out to enjoy the top quality entertainment in the tranquil surroundings of the Nathan Homestead.
On 27 February you can head back to the days of the big band and ‘Swing on the lawn with Power Play’, a 20-piece big
band which has thrilled audiences here in Auckland at the Winter Gardens, the Montana Wines Blues and Jazz Festival, not
to mention Santa parades and many other venues around New Zealand. Check out Power Play’s ‘Big Band’ style featuring
saxophones, trombones, rhythm section plus vocals.
Reminisce to the hits of the masters, from Glen Miller to Duke Ellington and swing tunes, ‘Night Train’ and ‘Zoot Suit
Riot’. A wide variety of musical styles will be performed, including some Latin tunes with a Latin flavour and 60’s rock
tunes like ‘Hang on Sloopy’, ‘Gimme some Loving’ and “Mony Mony’ Bring your dance partner and get ready to ‘Swing on the
lawn’.
The following week-end on 6 March the heat is turned up when Vox Nova bring their Latin vibes to the Nathan Homestead.
The set will feature tunes from Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Italy and France, as well as lesser known pieces. Rhythms include
bossa nova, samba, rhumba, cha cha, gypsy swing and more. These rhythms will get you moving to the beat! Vox Nova have
been delighting Auckland Festival audiences for the past 8 years with their brand of acoustic Latin music.
Now their family of musicians has grown to incorporate a second branch which is more in the style of gypsy swing; still
with the same commitment to acoustic music but with a violin/mandolin and a new German pianist. The repertoire includes
a mixture of classics as well as some contemporary but all in a lively swing flavour. At a recent launch of the swing
band, one listener commented. "I love your mixed genre approach." Which says it all; there’s something for everyone!
Turn up the heat and feel the rhythm of Latin on the Lawn! This will be the final concert in the ‘Summer on the Lawn’
series, so don’t miss out.
Bring along your picnic basket and blanket and be inspired and enthralled by these performances right on your doorstep
at the beautiful Nathan Homestead, which provides a perfect backdrop to ‘Summer on the Lawn’ 2005.
