Hot Weather Brings Record Numbers to Edgeware Pool
Warm temperatures have seen hundreds of local people flock to Edgeware Swimming Pool in the last week.
Pool spokesperson, Ingrid Stonhill, says it’s been spectacular to see the pool being used to its full capacity and by many people who have not used the pool before.
“The children of our local community and their families have been using Edgeware in their droves,” she says. “They are loving it!”
Approximately 350-400 people have been through the pool since the warm weather began last week; around 60-70 a day.
“It’s been gratifying to see families using the pool. We don’t have a problem with parents dropping off children and leaving them. We are not a babysitting service and our community knows that and respects the safety of our children,” she says.
There’s more good news. Edgeware Pool’s 2004-2005 season has been extended. The pool was to have closed in the first week of February because of a lack of council funding but it will now shut at the end of February. It is understood that St Albans School, which is just around the corner from Edgeware Pool, has reached an agreement with the City Council which, it is understood, involves the school paying to have the season extended.
“Whereas we are thrilled for the families and children in our community that the pool will stay open later in the year, we do not believe a local school should have to pay to keep an essential, local facility operating,” says Mrs Stonhill.
Edgware Pool is on Edgeware Road between Springfield Rd and Colombo Street in St Albans.
