Final Election Results Now Out For Porirura City
A final election result has been declared for Porirua City and there is no significant change to the preliminary result released on October 10.
“The line up is the same. However, there has been a movement in the rankings in the Northern Ward,” said Porirua City Council Chief Executive Dr Roger Blakeley.
“Councillor Robert Shaw has moved from the second highest polling candidate on election night to the highest polling candidate ahead of Euon Murrell. This is the only significant change. There have been some other movement in the votes, but they are very minor.”
Dr Blakeley said the last two weeks of uncertainty had been trying for all concerned and it was a relief that “we now have an unqualified clearance from the Office of the Auditor General.”
The preliminary results had been put through an exhaustive checking process that involved the accounting firm KPMG and separately, the Office of the Auditor General.
“Clearly we are not happy with what has happened and we will be undertaking a full review; from the appointment of Electionz.Com right through to and including feedback from councillors and candidates.
“It is critical that voters have complete trust in the election process to deliver an outcome that is accurate and timely. “
Dr Blakeley said the Council review would be handled internally. “Our situation is different to Wellington City where their Electoral Officer was a Council employee. In our case, we contracted out that role Electionz.Com.”
Council would also contribute to any other Government or Parliamentary reviews or inquiries that may be held.
“We will also be looking at passing on the extra costs involved in calling in the Office of the Auditor General. These costs are not known at this stage.”
Dr Blakeley said the final election results supplied to him are:
Mayor: Jenny Brash
Northern Ward: Robert Shaw, Euon Murrell, Sue Dow, John Green, Maureen Gillon
Eastern Ward: Litea Luafataali’i Ah Hoi, Taima Fagaloa, Naureen Palmer, Rob Rangi, David Stanley
Western Ward: Ken Douglas, Tracey Waters, Liz Kelly
Porirua Licensing Trust, Ward 1: John Burke, Litea Luafataali’i Ah Hoi, Ken Douglas, Sarah Dow
