‘Young Council Hopeful Urges Peers to Vote’
Shaun Gamble Auckland City Council Hobson Ward Candidate
Typically less than 50% of eligible voters vote in their local body elections and early estimates show that returns to
date are again tracking to this poor response rate.
“I am sure that a large proportion of those who haven’t voted in the past are the younger voters who find the whole
thing uninspiring. I am trying to change that” says first time Hobson Ward candidate Shaun Gamble.
Shaun’s campaign has targeted the younger voters through the use of the creative and interesting media including
graphically designed flyers, a self titled website, text messaging, “Vote Gamble” T-shirts, an appearance on George FM
and the now famous High Street projections.
“My peers are telling me they want Auckland to provide the kind of opportunities that cities they have lived in overseas
have offered, this includes a decent public transport system”
“If we want a great city then voting for it is one way we can make it happen”, says Shaun.
“We need visionary representatives if we are to create a safe, vibrant and economically successful 21st century city”.
Shaun’s priorities include an outstanding public transport system that integrates road, rail, buses, ferries cycling and
walking. Providing great entertainment, leisure and recreational choices, improved access to the waterfront and the
establishment of an urban research and design taskforce to ensure world-class architecture, building quality and urban
design.
“Our future literally is in our hands this week so I am encouraging voters to get informed and send their votes in. It
will make a difference.” says Shaun.
The deadline for voting in the local body elections closes this Saturday 9th October at 12pm .
