Centennial Highway Barrier Trial Supported*
The trial of a wire median barrier along 700 meters of Centennial Highway has been welcomed by Porirua City Councillor Robert Shaw.
Cr Shaw said Transit NZ is to be congratulated on its willingness "to experiment and work outside of internationally accepted practice".
"New Zealanders are adaptable and can be expected to respond well to the new structures."
Cr Shaw said the imposition of exceptional means to manage the existing state highway showed the need to advance Transmission Gully Motorway.
"No matter what is done on the existing highway, be it inside or outside of international standards, the road will not cope with the traffic nor will it be safe. "
Cr Shaw urged Transit to use its best endeavors to advance the Transmission Gully Motorway.
