Jewellery Designer Teaches State Of The Art Techniques At Nathan Homestead
Manukau residents are spoilt for choice with the diverse range of classes and workshops run by Manukau City Council's
Arts Services, at the Manurewa Community Arts Centre, (Nathan Homestead). One of these is Jewellery Construction and
Design tutored by Simon Misdale, due to start in the second week of October.
Simon Misdale comes with excellent credentials from his 30 years experience as a manufacturing jeweller and has sold
jewellery worldwide. He is an accomplished jewellery designer who has won several awards including the Necklace Division
of the Tahitian Black Pearl Trophy.
Manukau City Council's Acting Programme Co-ordinator Vic Leilua says, "This really is an opportunity to learn from a
master, with innovative ideas and an ability to extend his students. Each year Simon introduces new and exciting
techniques to his class.
"For example this year he introduced centrifugal casting, which leads to greater sculptural flexibility, and enamelling.
He enjoys seeing and helping his students progress artistically. Simon provides a solid foundation in technique to his
students but also encourages them to explore their own creative abilities.
"He was one of the exhibitors in the recent 'Exposure Exhibition' at the PPG Gallery in Ponsonby, where his work
received much acclaim and admiration from visitors."
Two 10 week classes in Jewellery Construction and Design for beginner and intermediate students will run from 9 October
3pm - 5.30 pm and 7pm - 9.30 pm; and 10 October 1.30pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8.30 pm. For more information on these and other
