Pakuranga Idols Waiting To Shine At Final
Manukau's youth have responded to the call and there are now 10 budding singers vying for the title of Pakuranga Idol
2004. Manukau City Council's Leisure team at the Pakuranga Youth Centre have completed running the heats and they, along
with hundreds of residents, know these young people have got what it takes to go all the way.
On August 6 you have your chance to see the 2004 Pakuranga idol crowned at the Pakuranga Youth Centre. Who will it be?
Take your pick from Shannon Pahula, a mere 9 years of age, and already a seasoned pro, or cool dude Riccardo James, 10
from Howick. These two are up against Lapurga Cezkamariz, also 10 and from Mangere; 12 year old Campbell Rehu from
Papatoetoe and Travis Ryland, 14, from Manurewa.
Or will one of the funky young ladies steal the title! They include Rasela-Joy Faleatua, from Papakura; Celine Giovanni
from Bucklands Beach and Nyla Joaquin, of Manurewa both 11; 15 year old Nyrene Crowley of Pakuranga, and 12 year old
Jasimine Ryland, brother of Travis, both chosen last Friday night. Talent runs in this family!
Centre Manager, Danny Lama says, "We are showcasing the coolest, most aspiring entertainers in the city, and we want as
many people there as possible to cheer them on and make it a night to remember. And what is really incredible is their
youth. The oldest is only 15!
We have it all from Usher, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, gospel and even performances encapsulating the styles of a
couple of the stars of the NZ Idolised Tour.
"This is indeed an occasion, not to be missed. Win or lose these finalists are all a class act, with sophistication and
talent way beyond their years. We have two of our original judges, Justin Nanai, recently returned from a tour of
England with Fusion; and Tony Fuemana, a promoter and producer, and NZ Beat Box Champion. As well there is singer,
Bronwyn Warren and special guest judge Andrew Woodhouse, head of the Young NZ Challenge, (the Duke of Edinburgh awards),
a beneficiary of the evening, as our judges for the event.
"Judging up to this point has been difficult due to the consistently high standard of entries and the final will be an
even bigger test yet! So come along and get involved, or just watch from the sidelines and cheer on our newly anointed
star and let all of Manukau's budding idols give you a night to remember."
This is a charitable community event. Entry fee for spectators is $2 for those 19 years and under and $5 for everyone
else. Some of the proceeds of this event will be donated to Pakuranga youth working towards The Young New Zealanders'
Challenge (Duke of Edinburgh's Award)
