Second contract let for Christchurch Cathedral Square road works
Christchurch City Council has awarded a second contract for road works in the north-west of Cathedral Square to Works Infrastructure. The contractor is already working on Worcester Street between Oxford Terrace and Cathedral Square.
The contract, worth $730,000, is part of a redesign of the roadway through the Square. This second stage of the work will begin on Monday, 26 July, with the existing roadway being narrowed to one-way only from west to east.
“It’s going to be one-way through there until they’ve finished the job in early November,” says council project manager Ross Herrett. “We know there’ll be some disruption for the transport operators working out of the Square, but we’ll do our best to make sure that it’s kept to a minimum and they know what’s going on.”
Parking for the public will also be restricted for the duration of the contract. However, there is ample parking in the nearby Farmers and Rydges parking buildings, off Oxford Terrace.
