Parnell rose pruning day
Aucklanders are invited to perfect their rose pruning skills this Sunday (18 July 2004) at the Parnell Rose Gardens annual rose pruning day.
Auckland City’s Premier Parks Foreperson, Mike Tucker, says it is an excellent opportunity for people with an interest in roses to learn from the experts. Auckland City gardeners, with assistance from members off the Heritage Rose Society, will be demonstrating the latest techniques in rose pruning and answering questions from the public.
Bring your secateurs and gloves and join the city’s rose experts at the Parnell Rose Gardens on the corner of Gladstone and Judges Bay Roads between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
Parnell Rose Gardens is a city icon and a much-loved setting for weddings and events.
Every year in November more than 16,000 people pour into Parnell to enjoy Auckland City's Parnell Festival of Roses. The free event is a two-day floral feast, which includes a variety of entertainment and visual displays. This year the event (20-21 November) promises to be even bigger and better as it will coincide with the Auckland Rose Society hosting the World Federation of Rose Societies Regional Convention. The event will also pay special tribute to Ivan Crowther, who has spent 33 years tending the roses in Parnell.
