MEDIA RELEASE
5 July 2004 Fashion Passion
Korean fashion designer Angela Kim will be showing her passion for fashion at the Artstation Gallery from 27 July to 14 August 2004.
Ms Kim’s exhibition, Fashion Passion, features intricate and detailed textiles which range from the traditional to the experimental with wearable art, woven sculpture and hand embroidery.
"Wearable art is a co-ordination of movement and materials on the human body,” says Ms Kim.
Her creations, which have been exhibited in Korea and New Zealand, combine fashion and art through the use of diverse materials like silk thread, beads, wire, rubbish bags, and bubble wrap to capture the human form and emotions.
Ms Kim’s experience of living in New Zealand and her rediscovery of her Korean heritage and traditions are explored through Fashion Passion. She believes art and fashion are effective communication tools as they cut through the language barriers to help us to understand and engage with other cultures.
Ms Kim has a Masters Degree in Fashion Design and has also worked in the fashion industry for over three years. Last year she was placed runner-up in the ‘Global Village’ category for the Trash to Fashion Awards.
