Transit New Zealand’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project continues. There are significant closures affecting motorists over the coming week, these are outlined below:
CMJ Stage 1 Ramp and link closures: Saturday 29 May – CLOSED – during the day from 6am to 8pm: Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
Sunday 30 May – CLOSED – during the day and overnight from 7am to 6am on Monday 31 May: Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
Sunday 30 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Wellesley St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Monday 31 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Wellesley St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Tuesday 1 June – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Wednesday 2 June – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Thursday 3 June – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Local road closures: Sunday 30 May – CLOSED – day and night from 6am on Sunday to 6am on Monday 31 May: Khyber Pass Road near the motorway ramps
Monday 31 May to Thursday 3 June – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Khyber Pass Road near the motorway ramps
Ongoing motorway lane closures: There will also be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Symonds St overbridge from Sunday through Thursday nights until 2005.
Please choose alternative on- and off-ramps during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.
The CMJ Project Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Wellington St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
