Millions approved for road and footpath maintenance
Expenditure of more than $150 million was approved for the renewal and maintenance of Auckland city’s roads and
footpaths at tonight’s council meeting.
The renewal and maintenance contracts cover Auckland city including Waiheke and Great Barrier islands for the next three
years.
Councillor Greg McKeown, Transport Committee chairman says this planned expenditure is core business for council and
points to a strong commitment to maintaining major assets.
“These contracts, running at approximately $50 million per year against an approximate annual rates income of $300
million, demonstrate just how large the business of maintaining and upgrading our existing local road infrastructure is.
Making sure our roads and footpaths are safe and in good condition is fundamental,” said Mr McKeown. “On top of this, we
are committed to the construction of new roading and public transport infrastructure.”
Auckland City followed a rigorous procurement process over nine months, ensuring contracts were awarded on best value
and industry practice.
The renewal and maintenance contracts were awarded as follows:
Fulton Hogan Limited - Great Barrier Island road and airfield maintenance city road renewals for Avondale, Eden-Albert
and Tamaki-Maungakiekie wards
Works Infrastructure Limited - city road maintenance Hauraki Gulf Islands road renewals and Waiheke Island road
maintenance
Highway Systems Limited - citywide road marking maintenance, including Waiheke Island
Alstom Limited - citywide street lighting maintenance and renewals
Blacktop Construction Limited - city road renewals for Hobson, Eastern Bays and Western Bays wards John Filmore
Contracting Limited - city footpath renewals for Hobson, Eastern Bays and Western Bays wards city footpath renewals for
Avondale, Eden-Albert and Tamaki-Maungakiekie wards
These contracts amount to $151,318,656 of which over 30 per cent will be subsidised by Transfund NZ.
