CHCH Personality Snaps Up Popular Cafe
A well-known Christchurch radio personality has bought a popular cafe, after it was on the market for just four days.
John Tyler, or Tyles as he is better known, bought Cafe Stir, on Christchurch's unique New Regent Street, with his partner, Marsley Parsons. The pair started trading at the cafe last week, but John's association with the bustling business goes further back.
"I've been drinking coffee at the cafe for the last four or five years. Now we joke that I liked the coffee so much, I bought the cafe."
John, who used to be on-air at both 91ZM and More FM, says he snapped up the business because it was a good package with a great location and a good structure.
Simes business broker Geoff Smart, who sealed the deal, says the quick sale of the thriving cafe proves Christchurch's coffee culture is still alive and well.
"This business has a great location, and one that's only set to get better with the Christchurch City Council supporting an upgrade of the historic area.
I'm not surprised that Cafe Stir was snapped up so quickly as it was a realistically priced business that has the X-factor."
But don't expect to see John standing behind the counter, as he admits he just gets in the way.
"Marsley will be working in the cafe - hands-on.
She's a dab-hand in the kitchen...her scotch broth is the
soup that made Prince Charlie bonny."
