Scene examination at West Auckland Homicide Inquiry
A scene examination is taking place at a house in the West Auckland suburb of Sunnyvale, where a woman suffered fatal head injuries.
Police were called to the address just before midnight and also found the woman’s husband in the house. He had suffered substantial head injuries and is in a critical condition in Auckland City Hospital.
Three children aged three to eight were in the house at the time and were not harmed, two of them went to a neighbour’s house for help after their mother was attacked. Family members are caring for the children.
"The scene examination will help police establish what happened in the house last night along with a post mortem examination of the woman," says Detective Sergeant Megan Goldie. "We have identified two possible weapons that may have been used and we also want to speak to several people in relation to events at the address."
Family members are being interviewed this afternoon and police will also interview the children as part of the investigation.
The deceased woman was aged 32, her name will be released once next of kin have been advised, her husband is aged 46.
