Healthy Lifestyles Create Manukau Winners
Manukau City Council's recent Healthy Lifestyle campaign has resulted in 40 winners of magazine subscriptions, seven day fitness passes and aquatic packs.
Held throughout October, the campaign gave Manukau residents the opportunity to attend free seminars on healthy lifestyles at council libraries and recreation centres. All attendees were eligible for the prizes, drawn by Manukau Community Constable - Lenny Johnson.
Guest speakers included Riki Bennett, physiotherapist Joe Fa'alogo, chef Garth Hokianga, nutritionist Jeni Pearce and life coach Andrea Molloy. Council's libraries also promoted health and wellbeing books, while its fitness centres offered free fitness assessments.
Marketing Co-ordinator Philip Dobson says that the idea behind the campaign was to promote healthy lifestyles through reading and physical activity.
"This is the first time that our libraries and leisure services areas have worked on a campaign of this size. It has been successful enough that we will definitely look at doing a joint promotion again in the future. "
6,732 health related books were issued during October, there was an 11.2% increase in library memberships compared with October 2002 and an average of 23 people per session attended each seminar. Over 50 people attended the Pakuranga Library session to hear Angela Molloy Life coach and author.
Twenty people won a seven day Fitness Pass to a council centre, ten won their choice of a magazine subscription to NZ Fitness, Cuisine or About Kids, and ten won aquatic packs.
