Top water users targeted
High users of water in the eastern and north-eastern suburbs of Christchurch are being targeted currently by the Council as part of its “Waterwise’ campaign to encourage people to use less water and protect the water supply.
Over the past few months the top 20% of water users have been sent letters advising them that their consumption is high compared with the city’s average, along with tips on how they can save water. They can contact the Council’s technical services who will arrange a site visit to the property, to help identify if there is a leak or if water is being wasted.
Already some significant leaks have been picked up, and some old, inefficient meters replaced.
High users in other areas will be contacted at a later date.
