Manukau Parks To Offer A 24 Hour A Day Contact Service
Manukau residents can now contact Manukau City Council about parks matters around the clock.
Parks manager, Digby Whyte says that because people have access to parks 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year it makes sense to provide them with someone they can talk to any time day or night.
“By telephoning our Call Centre on 262 5104, you can ask our staff anything about parks or report a problem such as a fallen tree. We’ll answer your questions, organise our parks contractors to fix the problem if needed, or arrange for a parks officer to visit to discuss an issue.
“We get around 80 calls a day about parks. We field all kinds of requests from wanting to help with planting trees or seeking permission for memorial seats and footpaths. We deal with bird or bee problems, and give out information on where you can launch a boat, ride a horse or go mountain biking.
“Some of the problems we solve include maintenance issues of changing rooms and toilets, locked gates, bonfires on beaches or damaged parks furniture, or long grass people suspect our contractors may have missed.
“By having our Call Centre as the one point of contact you can be assured your call will always be dealt with in a prompt and friendly manner – even at 2am if that’s the time that suits you,” says Dr Whyte.
Manukau City is well endowed with over 550 parks and reserves and over 100 kilometres of esplanade reserves around the coastline and along major streams and rivers.
