The massive task of delivering 85,000 green recycling bins – one for every household in Manukau – has been completed.
Household recyclers are now counting down to their rubbish day next week. That’s when they can start putting their
plastics, glass, tins and cans out in the green bins for collection.
Key messages for Manukau’s recyclers, in the last week before the launch of recycling, are:
Contact Manukau City Council’s Call Centre on Ph 262 5104 if you have not received your bin. Every effort will be made
to deliver missed bins before next Monday. But, if the bin has not arrived by rubbish day next week, put the recyclables
out for collection in an open cardboard box. Never use plastic bags.
The bin is for plastics 1 and 2 – for example soft drink and milk bottles – glass jars and bottles, tins and cans. All
go together in the green bin. Please, no rubbish or paper in the bin.
On rubbish day, put the paper out beside the bin, tied in a bundle, in a plastic bag or in a cardboard box.
On rubbish day, ordinary rubbish goes out in a rubbish bag, as usual, but not in your green bin. It definitely will not
be collected if it is in the green recycling bin, even if it is in plastic bags.
