Designed to offer well-settled overstayers a chance to make a formal application for residence the Transitional Policy
ends on Friday 30 March. The policy introduced by Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel last year has attracted 3,375
applications since October last year.
In supporting the policy Sir Barry Curtis is urging all those who are concerned about their immigration status to
contact the NZ Immigration Service and to do so before 30 March.
“In the past we have seen the consequences of not following immigration procedures and it is not something anybody would
wish on any family, Sir Barry Curtis said.
“The Transitional Policy is the Government giving people a second chance and should not be ignored. The New Zealand
Immigration Service is accepting applications up to and on 30 March and I urge anybody who thinks they may be eligible
to apply.
“I have seen the distress caused by ignoring the law surrounding immigration and that is why I am imploring people to
apply to have their situation recognised”.
