The Wellington Residents Coalition, supported by a variety of organisations, aims to get together people who are opposed
to the privatisation of New Zealand's water. That's why we are organising a conference (see attached leaflet) on the
Saturday after Labour weekend - Saturday October 28th, in Wellington.
You and/or the members of your organisation are invited to join us.
You will be aware of the range of multinational companies e.g. Anglian Water, lining up to "offer their services".
Experience of such services in numerous countries from Britain to Bolivia is disastrous. Prices skyrocket, water purity
declines, and the only people that profit are the company shareholders.
We have already had experience of this process in Wellington, with our electricity. The Municipal Electricity Department
became a corporation - Capital Power. This was sold to Trans Alta, and you know the rest - residential power charges up,
and quality of service down.
However, we can put a stop to this if we organise, throughout the country, noting what the Water Pressure Group in
Auckland has already done to put the Water issue on the map. That's the point of this conference.
