A ceremony to mark the planting of 1000 azaleas will be held in Hagley Park, near Nancy’s Corner in Deans Avenue, on
Thursday 5 October at 10.30am.
The azalea gift was made possible by benefactor Kenneth F Weaver of Christchurch. The University of Canterbury’s Grounds
Department raised the plants.
It has taken seven years from the idea to the planting.
Mr Weaver put the idea to the university that if it would propagate 1000 azalea cuttings and get them to bloom true to
colour and at the same time, then the Kenneth F Weaver Charitable Trust would fund the project.
Present at the ceremony will be Mr Weaver and Simon McCarthy, the University propagator.
