AA BACKS ARC’S “SMOKY VEHICLE” CAMPAIGN
The Automobile Association is backing the Auckland Regional Council’s campaign to identify smoky vehicles.
“The Association recognises that motorists have a responsibility to ensure their vehicles run as cleanly as possible,” the Association’s Auckland District Manager, Stephen Selwood, said today.
“If this campaign will raise public awareness of the harm caused by vehicle pollution, and the importance of keeping cars properly tuned, then it has to be worthwhile.
“We are particularly pleased the Auckland Regional Council is adopting an educative rather than punitive approach, offering owners of smoky vehicles the chance to get a free emissions check.”
Mr Selwood said the Association still believed that the best way of reducing the emissions caused by Auckland’s traffic congestion was to complete the city’s motorway and transport corridors without delay.
“It is ridiculous to have cars ‘idling’ their way to and from work every day,” Mr Selwood said.
