The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Monday:
Situation: A high in the Tasman Sea is pushing a ridge onto the lower South Island today. A southerly flow covers the
remainder of the country. Tomorrow the ridge covers much of the country as a low develops in the South Tasman Sea. High
pressure covers the country on Saturday then the high drifts east on Sunday and allows the low to start moving onto the
lower South Island and a moist northerly flow develops over the country. On Monday the low lies south of the country and
a disturbed northwest flow affects most of New Zealand.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE,
WANGANUI and MANAWATU Cloud and fine breaks with a few light showers clearing later today. Mainly fine tomorrow and
Saturday. Cloud increasing Sunday in the north and west with late rain to Northland. Showers or rain to most places on
Monday with northwest winds.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Showery today. A few showers about Gisborne tomorrow otherwise becoming fine. Mainly
fine on Saturday and Sunday. Cloudy at times on Monday with patchy rain about the ranges and north to northwest winds.
WELLINGTON: A few showers clearing tonight with southerly winds easing. Fine tomorrow and Saturday. Sunday sees an
increase in wind from the north then late showers. Outbreaks of rain and gusty northerlies on Monday.
NELSON: Conditions fine and settled until later Saturday then cloud increasing. Patchy rain and northerlies Sunday.
Showers and northwesterlies on Monday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Remaining cloud and the odd coastal shower about Kaikoura clearing otherwise fine but cold
with easing southerlies. Tomorrow and Saturday sees a mix of cloud and fine weather, the cloud chiefly coastal. High
cloud increasing Sunday but dry in most places, rain later to the main divide. Patchy rain spreading off the alps from
time to time on Monday with gusty
northwest winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly fine apart from cloud increasing about the fiords. Cloudier tomorrow with patchy
rain likely south of Haast. Drizzly rain spreading further north during Saturday. More persistent and heavier falls
expected Sunday and Monday with strengthening northerlies.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Fine today apart from cloud about the south coast and Stewart Island. A mix of cloud and fine
breaks tomorrow. Patchy rain in the west later Saturday, elsewhere dry again. Sunday rain about the western ranges but
only a few falls further east. Rain to most places on Monday with northwesterlies turning westerly.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showers today and tomorrow with southerly winds becoming southwest. Cloudy and dry over the weekend
with light winds. On Monday a few showers and northwest winds.
