Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand
to midnight Sunday:

Situation: A trough east of the country should continue to drift
away tomorrow as a ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South
Island. Friday sees the ridge moving onto the North Island as new
trough develops in the south Tasman Sea. This trough looks unlikely
to affect much of the country until later on Sunday with a high
persisting until then.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA
TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU A few showers about Bay of Plenty and areas north of
Hamilton today, elsewhere a mix of fine and cloudy periods.
Tomorrow mainly fine with just the odd shower north of about
Auckland. Friday and Saturday sees a good deal of sunshine in most
places but skies rather cloudy about Northland. Cloud increasing
Sunday in the north and west. Bay of Plenty to Taupo stays fine

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Rain persisting north of Mahia
until early tomorrow then a few showers for a time, further south
mostly cloudy but with fine periods increasing later. Skies clearing
Friday then settled over the weekend.

WELLINGTON: A mix of cloud and fine spells today and tomorrow with
little if any showers. Fine Friday and Saturday. Sunday sees an
increase in wind from the north then late showers.

NELSON: Conditions fine and settled until later Saturday then cloud
increasing. Patchy rain and northerlies Sunday.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Remaining cloud and the odd coastal
shower clearing tomorrow otherwise fine but cold with easing
southerlies. Friday and Saturday sees a mix of cloud and fine
weather, the cloud chiefly coastal. High cloud increasing Sunday
but dry in most places, rain later to the main divide.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine today and tomorrow but later
Thursday cloud increasing about the fiords. Cloudier generally,
Friday with patchy rain likely south of Haast. Drizzly rain
spreading further north during Saturday. More persistent and
heavier falls expected Sunday with strengthening northerlies.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloud and remaining showers near the coasts
clearing later today. Inland becoming fine and frosty. Fine and
cool tomorrow apart from cloud about the south coast and Stewart
Island. Friday sees more extensive cloud but it should remain dry.
Patchy rain in the west later Saturday, elsewhere dry again.
Sunday sees rain spreading to most areas with persistent falls
about the western ranges.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain easing to showers early tomorrow with colder
southerlies developing with a few fine breaks likely later. Showers
fewer and far between by Friday with winds easing and turning
southwest. Cloudy and dry over the weekend.
