All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: A large slow-moving high over the mid Tasman
Sea
extends a ridge over much of New Zealand. A weak
frontal zone
over the South Island is moving northeast
and should lie near
Cook Strait by midday. A more active
front followed by much
colder air is expected to
approach the far south of the country
late
tonight.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA,
TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI,
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
MANAWATU: Fine apart from
cloudy periods. Some fog and mist likely
in many places
this morning. West to southwest breezes.
GISBORNE, HAWKES
BAY, WAIRARAPA and WELLINGTON: A mix of fine and
cloudy
periods. Cloud more extensive about Wairarapa and Wellington
this afternoon with a weak southerly change, winds
elsewhere should
be light.
NELSON: Mainly fine with light winds for much of the day.
MARLBOROUGH: Fine at
first. Cloud increasing but remaining dry.
Light
winds
inland, southerlies for a time about the
coast.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly cloudy skies
with west to
southwest winds. Drizzly rain about
Fiordland may spread further
north during the day.
Turning colder in the far south late tonight
with
showers.
CANTERBURY: Cloudy with southwesterlies for a
time but towards
evening winds turning northeast. A few
light showers spreading
north near the coast this
morning.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: A cloudy day with patchy
rain and breezy
westerlies for much of the time. Colder
southerlies strengthening
in the south late tonight with
rain more widespread.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with showery southwesterlies.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Becoming colder
over the country as
the flow turns more southerly and a
cold front rapidly travels
northeast. Showers in most
places. At the Chatham’s further
showers with
strengthening southwest winds.
