The Situation: A strong southwest flow covers the country.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND,
COROMANDEL PENINSULA, TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI and TAIHAPE: A mix of fine and
cloudy periods
with showers at times. Longer fine
periods about the central plateau
from afternoon.
Southwesterlies, strong and gusty in exposed places.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Mainly fine with southwest winds.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Remaining showers near the
eastern ranges
clearing this morning otherwise a fine
day with southwest winds.
WELLINGTON: The odd shower in
the east at first otherwise fine.
Southerlies dying out
this afternoon and winds turning northerly
tonight.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: A few
brief coastal showers
about Wairarapa and southern
Hawkes Bay spreading further north
during the day.
Inland, mainly fine. Southwest winds, strong about
exposed coastal places.
NELSON: Fine with brisk southwesterlies.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine cold
weather with light
winds inland. Southwesterlies in
coastal places. Brief showers
affecting Banks Peninsula
at times.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly fine and
clear with
southwest breezes. The odd shower here and
there at times about
the Fiordland mountains.
OTAGO
and SOUTHLAND: Cloudy periods with showers about the
south
Coast and Stewart Island. West to southwest winds,
strong and
gusty about the coast but lighter
inland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A cold day ahead with
southwesterlies to gale
force from later this morning.
Expect frequent showers.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: The
southwest flow continues over the
country with showers
in many places. In the east, though, long
fine periods
expected. Showery again at the Chathams.
