All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: A shallow low and associated frontal zone lies
east
of the country and should affect the Chatham
Islands today. A weak
westerly flow covers central and
northern areas but in the far south
the flow is expected
to strengthen from the northwest ahead of an
active
trough over the western Tasman Sea.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND COROMANDEL
PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA
WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TAIHAPE, TAUPO, TARANAKI,
WANGANUI and
MANAWATU: A mix of fine and cloudy periods in
most
places today. A few showers in western areas, chiefly
from Waikato to Manawatu this morning. Bay of Plenty to
Taupo
should stay mainly dry. Westerly breezes, mostly
light.
WELLINGTON: Mainly fine with northerly breezes.
Winds freshening
this afternoon.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY
and WAIRARAPA: A fine day ahead with light
winds in most
places, northwesterlies becoming gusty about
Wairarapa.
Just the odd shower close to the main ranges
at first
this morning.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Mainly
fine, sunny conditions with
northwest breezes.
BULLER,
WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloudy thickening. Showers turning
to drizzly rain from evening. Northerly winds
strengthening
during the day south of the
glaciers.
CANTERBURY and OTAGO: Cloudy at times with
morning drizzle patches
about the coast this morning.
Fine inland. Northeasterlies
about the coast.
Northwesterlies inland later.
SOUTHLAND: Cloud increasing
during the day. Drizzle possible
this evening in the far
west and about Stewart Island. North
to northwest
winds.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A wet day with rain for much of
the time.
Gusty northerly winds.
THE OUTLOOK FOR
TOMORROW: Rain or showers in many western
places.
Remaining dry from Bay of Plenty to Canterbury.
Rain
spilling into Southland and Otago from the west.
At the
Chatham Islands, showery.
