Workshop:
The Situation: A high over the country should drift east and lie over the Chatham Islands later today. A front in the Tasman Sea is approaching the South Island with a strengthening northwest flow ahead of it.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND and COROMANDEL PENINSULA: Mainly fine but cloud and a few isolated showers possible about the east coast. Northeasterly breezes.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAIHAPE, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mainly fine after a frosty start. Light winds.
TARANAKI, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Mainly fine at first with light winds. Cloud increasing late in the day with northwest winds.
WELLINGTON: Mostly fine but cloud increasing late in the day. Northerlies freshening.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: A few cloudy periods about Gisborne with the odd light shower possible otherwise fine. Northeast breezes.
NELSON: Mainly fine with northerlies developing.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloud increasing with patchy rain about Fiordland spreading further north later in the day. Northeast winds.
MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO: Mainly fine after a frosty start. Light winds inland and northeasterlies about the coast.
SOUTHLAND: Fine at first. High cloud increasing later with a few showers developing about the western ranges late in the day. Northwest winds.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A mix of cloud and fine breaks with southwest breezes.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Showers to western areas of the North Island otherwise fine. Rain along the South Island west coast with high cloud elsewhere. At the Chathams, Mostly fine.
