The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Thursday.
Situation: An anticyclone covers the country today through until Tuesday. On Wednesday the high weakens as an active front approaches the South Island from the Tasman Sea. On Thursday the high moves east of the North Island and a front moves onto the South Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, TAUPO, WANGANUI, MANAWATU and WELLINGTON: Mainly fine today. Mainly fine tomorrow after a frosty start but cloudy periods likely in the east from Coromandel Peninsula to Northland. Mainly fine Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, cloud increasing with late rain from Taranaki to Wellington but remaining dry elsewhere.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: A few light showers retreating to the coast today then clearing tonight. Tomorrow through until Thursday mainly fine weather but high cloud increasing south of Napier on Thursday.
NELSON: Mainly fine today through until Wednesday with overnight frosts in sheltered places. Cloud increasing early Thursday with late rain spreading from the west.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly fine today through until Tuesday apart from a few cloudy periods about Fiordland. Patchy rain spreads north on Wednesday then widespread rain on Thursday with a few heavy falls likely.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mainly fine today until Wednesday. High cloud developing late on Wednesday however. On Thursday, rain about the alps with falls spreading further east at times.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mainly fine today until Tuesday. Patchy rain about the western ranges on Wednesday with high cloud elsewhere. Rain to most places on Thursday then easing to showers later.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers clearing today. A mix of cloud and fine breaks tomorrow through until Thursday and remaining dry.
