All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: A south to southwest airflow covers most
areas of the country while a low near the Chatham
Islands
is slow moving. West of the upper North Island a
trough is
drifting east. A ridge of high pressure is
expected to
spread onto the far south of the South
Island later today.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI,
TAIHAPE, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY
of PLENTY/ROTORUA, TAUPO,
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Showers
affecting many places today
some of which may be heavy
and thundery this morning from
New Plymouth northwards.
During the afternoon and evening
skies gradually
clearing from the south. South to southwest
winds.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Outbreaks
of rain about
Wairarapa for much of the day, elsewhere a
mix of cloudy and
fine weather with a few odd showers
likely. Breezy
southwesterlies.
WELLINGTON: Mostly
cloudy with outbreaks of rain but from
afternoon a few
fine periods developing. Southerly winds.
NELSON: Cloud
and showers clearing this morning to become
fine and
frosty. Light southwest breezes.
MARLBOROUGH: Showers
persisting about the Kaikoura Coast
today, elsewhere
skies breaking this morning and long fine
periods
developing. Light winds inland, breezy southerlies
continuing about the coast.
CANTERBURY, OTAGO and
SOUTHLAND: Showers clearing from
Canterbury and coastal
places further south this morning
but skies remaining
quite cloudy. About inland areas of
Otago and Southland
long fine periods. Southwest winds,
strong and gusty
about eastern coastal areas. Inland
winds mainly
light.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine sunny
conditions
expected today with not much wind but about
the far south
of Fiordland cloudy periods with the odd
light shower at
times.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain at times.
Gusty northeast winds tending
southeast tonight.
THE
OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Fine and frosty in most places.
Showers continuing along the North Island east coast and
south
to Marlborough then a clearance from Cook Strait
southwards
later. At the Chatham Islands, Showers and
colder southeasterlies.
