All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:

The Situation: A ridge of high pressure should weaken over the
North Island today as a cold front advances over the South Island.
A second cold front is expected to approach the far south towards
midnight and is followed by very cold wintry air.

And now the forecast to midnight tonight:

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A mix of
cloudy and fine periods, A few light showers likely at times.
West to southwest winds.

BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: A fine sunny day ahead with light
winds.

WELLINGTON: Fine for much of the time. A few cloudy areas from
afternoon. Northerly breezes.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine conditions with light
winds in most places. Northwesterlies becoming breezy in Wairarapa
this afternoon.

NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Fine and frosty at first. Cloud increasing
this afternoon, a few brief showers likely tonight. Light winds
tending northwest this afternoon.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Showers working north today, reaching
Buller tonight then fine periods increasing in the south. Rain
setting in about Fiordland after dark with snow lowering over
the mountains.

CANTERBURY: A few areas of fog at first this morning otherwise fine. Southwesterlies and brief showers spreading from the south this
afternoon reaching north Canterbury this evening.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain spreading to most areas today then clearing
inland with showers retreating to the coast. Southwesterlies turning
westerly later this afternoon. After dark rain developing about
western Southland.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with occasional showers. Cold southwest winds.

THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: A wintry outbreak, in fact the coldest so
far this season. Showers becoming widespread throughout North Island
areas with snow to the central plateau and the main ranges further
south. Snow showers expected to low levels in South Island districts
but along the west coast slowly clearing. At the Chathams, frequent
showers of sleet and hail with southwest winds.
