All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: A low and associated frontal zone west of
New
Zealand is moving northeast and should lie east
of the
North Island by midnight. A ridge of high pressure is
expected to spread onto the South Island during the
day.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI,
TAIHAPE and TAUPO: Rain
spreading to most places for a
time today then easing to showers
from the west. A few
thunderstorms likely this afternoon from
Hamilton
northwards. Northwest winds turning westerly.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloudy periods with not much wind.
WELLINGTON:
Fine apart from cloudy periods. Southeast winds
freshening this afternoon.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and
WAIRARAPA: Fine at first. Brief rain
likely about
Gisborne and northern Hawkes Bay this afternoon
and
evening but further south remaining dry although cloudy.
Mostly light winds.
NELSON, BULLER, WESTLAND and
FIORDLAND: Fine apart from areas of
high cloud in most
areas. Cloud increasing about the fiords tonight
with
patchy rain developing. Mostly light
breezes.
MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO: Areas of low
cloud and fog about
coastal Canterbury and Otago,
elsewhere mainly fine and sunny. Not
a great deal of
wind.
SOUTHLAND: Fine for much of the day. Cloud
increasing from the west
tonight with westerlies
developing. The odd light shower in the far
west by then
also.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Mostly cloudy skies with a few
morning showers.
Light winds tending southeast
later.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: A ridge of high pressure
should cover much
of the country with a good deal of
fine weather expected. However, a
few showers may linger
about the northeastern parts of the North
Island. Also
skies rather cloudy in the far south with a few light
showers thru Foveaux Strait and about Stewart
Island.
